Social Skills Training

The Listen And Lean Centre offers social skills training programs for children and adolescents to develop self confidence and social skills in a variety of situations. It is tailored to suit a child’s individual needs and uses role play based on real life situations to cover the following:

Recognising non-verbal cues such as body language and how to respond appropriately to the life situation
Expression of emotion – what it means and how to react
Confident self expression through voice and body language
Friendship and conversational skills
Role play of specific situations and effective communication

Individual sessions

Individual sessions are vital in laying the groundwork for group lessons. By working one to one with a therapist, individuals are able to develop their skills with a positive and supportive role model. Individuals commence with a ten week program consisting of weekly one on one private sessions with home activities. Progress feedback is provided.

Group sessions

Following completion of private sessions, individuals are prepared to apply their skills in a group setting. Regular attendance at group sessions provides an opportunity for students to apply the new skills and build relationships.
