Attengo: Neuro-cognitive training program Attention, Concentration, Working Memory and Executive Function

AttenGo is a web-based program designed to provide intense brain training that targets cognitive deficits in attention, concentration, working memory and executive function. AttenGo is useful in addressing Attention Deficit Disorder ADD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD, Learning Difficulties and Memory issues

Developed at the Advanced Cognitive Enhancement (ACE) clinic in Toronto, Canada. Developed following 7 years of intensive research, AttenGo is designed to simultaneously improves brain wave regulation by increasing beta waves essential for focus & concentration using only computerized exercises with no electrode based feedback and strengthen key cognitive skills such as attention, concentration, working memory & executive function.

AttenGo includes numerous challenging exercises with a real time feedback system. Clients are able to monitor your progress any time and from any location by accessing your results in both data and graph formats.

There are two modules in the AttenGo training: AttenFocus and AttenMemory. AttenFocus works on attention span, focus and concentration, while AttenMemory improves short-term, long-term and working memory as well as the ability to process information quickly and accurately.

Most users notice improvement within a few weeks of training.

How does AttenGo work?

AttenGo challenges brain function through exercises that address:

Attention duration - Sustaining attention for longer periods
Divided attention - focusing on more than one task at a time
Selective attention - focusing on one task, without being distracted by other tasks
Working memory - retaining necessary information for short periods of time, yet long enough to complete specific tasks
Sequential processing - working with pieces of information, one after another
Simultaneous processing or multitasking - processing a few pieces of information at the same time
Processing speed - the speed with which information is processed
Sensory motor coordination - coordinating sensory and motor skills
Visual processing - working with visual images
Auditory processing - working with sounds
Audio-visual coordination - working with both sound and visuals, simultaneously
Peripheral vision – noticing background details while focusing on a task
Concept comprehension - understanding tasks and concepts
Visual blending - bringing letters to form words (both visual and auditory)

AttenGo Training Steps

AttenGo is an adaptive program that will lead you through the following process:

General Assessment  Easy and brief computerized questionnaire to identify problematic areas
Cognitive Assessment Neuro-cognitive assessment to determine different aspects of cognitive performance
Assignment The system will assign a program based on these assessments
Training Program  Step by step training which includes scores, progress graphs & follow up information
Re-Assessment Assessing your progress regularly
Improve Repeating training levels with low scores
Advanced Training  Advance to more challenging levels of cognitive performance
Completion     Final assessment compared to your initial baseline

How is AttenGo training structured and how long does it take?

AttenGo training is designed to be undertaken at home. For children, home based training should be under the supervision of a parent or guardian. AttenGo training can also be undertaken at the Centre under the supervision of one of our therapists.

Depending on the child or adult, training should be undertaken for 20 to 30 minutes per session, 3 to 5 times per week for around 3 to 6 months depending on training frequency and individual capability.

The Science behind AttenGo

There is a variety of scientific articles and information that you can read on the the AttenGo website: Link to AttenGo articles....

At the Listen And Learn Centre we are currently undertaking a Pilot study to show the effectiveness of AttenGo training.

AttenGo vs. Neurofeedback

One of the most important advantages of AttenGo is that it can be used at home, without professional supervision, and it was designed to work without EEG feedback. A built-in scoring system provides the feedback that tells users whether they’re getting the desired results. The program reports both general progress and areas of special difficulty and records the results for constant monitoring of progress.

The two techniques differ in other important ways. Most neurofeedback protocols focus on developing sustained attention, by encouraging the production of Beta 1 brainwaves and by inhibiting slow Theta brainwaves. Other aspects of attention, such as selective attention, orienting of attention, and executive attention, are not usually reinforced. These aspects are critical in developing the well-rounded cognitive skills essential to listening, reading, learning, problem solving, following instructions, and interacting responsibly in various settings.

Unlike neurofeedback, AttenGo trains for cognitive skills on the most fundamental level. Also, in addition to enhancing Beta 1 brainwaves, it also reinforces Beta 2, important for alertness. The program enables users to practice the lows and highs of each frequency band and trains them to quickly shift from one band to another (Alpha/theta, Beta 1, Beta 2), thus developing better attentional flexibility. In addition, it helps in improving working memory, which is impaired in most individuals suffering from focus and concentration problems. Neurofeedback does not address auditory related difficulties at all. AttenGo does that as part of the training.

AttenGo does even more: it trains users to meet cognitive challenges against both visual and auditory distractions, enabling marked improvement in the ability to concentrate, even in a noisy classroom or workplace.
