Tomatis method listening program - the principles and technique of Dr Alfred Tomatis

Dr Alfred Tomatis pioneered psychoacoustics and auditory training over 50 years ago. His called his techniques the Tomatis Method. His approach was to use electronically modified music to re-educate the auditory system, by stimulating and and improving the way in which we process incoming auditory information and thus the way that we listen and communicate.

Many people experience listening disabilities and do not realize it. Difficulties in processing sound to its full potential causing problems in auditory attention, communication skills, co-ordination, energy levels, learning abilities and sensory integration. Through his research into psychoacoustics, Dr Tomatis showed that individuals could be trained to improve or enhance their ability to process sound, to overcome weaknesses or further develop listening related skills.

Dr Tomatis founded his auditory training programs based on the following three principles

The voice contains only the sounds that the ear hears.
If listening is modified, the voice is also modified immediately and unconsciously.
It is possible to transform the voice by auditory stimulus that is sustained over a certain period of time.

Enhanced auditory processing

Dr Alfred Tomatis and users of his technology and techniques have been able to show through individual case studies that the his method of auditory training can enhance auditory processing abilities.

The Listen And Learn Centre

The Auditory Training Programs at the Listen And Learn Centre use the technologies of Christophe Besson and the techniques of Dr Alfred Tomatis. Christophe Besson was a technical associate to Dr Alfred Tomatis in the development of Electronic Ears in the 1990s. The Centre is not a member of the Tomatis Developpement S.A. network, nor do we use their equipment.
